Prague Nightlife
Prague is one of the major European destinations for clubbing, organizing stag parties, hen parties and even if you came for a different reason, why not enjoy a drink or two or get loose and party a little?
On this site, we are trying to give you some pointers and advice to help you enjoy yourself in Prague at night, so that when you arrive, you will already know where to go and what you will get there.
If you like getting down on the dance floor and enjoy a drink or two (or, of course, as many as you want), Prague has a wide selection of clubs with different themes and music for you that will welcome you all night long and hopefully satisfy your needs. We have listed the best known of the clubs (sorted by the music style they usually have) for you, along with a short description and directions:
Disco:
- Klub Meloun - Michalska 12, Prague 1 (near underground station Narodni trida)
This club features Czech and Slovak disco music (80's, 90's and contemporary music) on weekends, karaoke parties on Wednesdays and all Mondays and Tuesdays between 8 and 10 pm there is a 20% discount on all drinks.
- Futurum Music Bar - Zborovska 7, Prague 5 (tram stop Zborovska)
The history of this club goes as far as the 60's; until the 90's, the name of the venue was "Music f club". It was rebuilt in 1998 and took on its futuristic look. It hosts many contemporary popular Czech bands and every weekend features the "80's and 90's party" (which is of course reproduced music).
- Face to Face music club - Ostrov Stvanice 1125, Prague 7 (on the Stvanice island, near underground stations Florenc and Vltavska)
One of the more student-friendly clubs
(if you have an ISIC card, you get a discount) in central Prague. Also, every wednesday there is an all-inclusive party where you pay 300 CZK entrance fee and have all drinks for free.
House / Techno:
- Klub Duplex - Wenceslas square 21, Prague 1 (underground station Mustek, tram stop Vaclavske namesti)
One of the most famous clubs in Prague, the Duplex is situated in a glass cube on the top floor of a historical building. Fances some of the best DJ's (not only) from the Czech republic and has been the host events such as the 60th birthday party of Mick Jagger, the lead singer of the Rolling Stones band.
- Roxy Dance club - Dlouha 33, Prague 1 (tram stop Dlouha trida)
A club close to the Old Town square that usually features more "hard-core" music than the other Prague clubs (like Drum 'n' Bass, Jungle or Techno). The dance hall is quite large, with a hangar-like look.
- Radost FX - Belehradska 120, Prague 2 (underground station, bus and tram stops I.P. Pavlova)
This club was among the first in the Czech republic to feature House, Techno and R 'n'
B music styles and even international stars like Paul Van Dyk, Carl Cox and Moby performed there. The proprietors are professional designers and on every anniversary of the club's founding they change the interior design - so if you have visited the venue before, you might want to come again - odds are it will look different.
- Mecca - U Pruhonu 3, Prague 7 (tram stops U Pruhonu and Ortenovo namesti)
Club that features free Wednesdays (and girls even receive a free "Sex on the beach" cocktail before midnight on these occasions) and hosts many known DJs and on the 9th December this year it hosts the famous Ministry of sound.
Rock & Metal:
- Karlovy Lazne - Smetanovo nabrezi 198, Prague 1 (tram stop Karlovy Lazne)
Supposedly the biggest establishment of its kind in Central Europe - 5 music clubs in 5 floors in a historical building from the end of 14th century with parts of the interior from that period (in two floors, the dance floor is actually in the former Roman bath - of course without the water) combined with modern equipment make a unique atmosphere. It is the most visited gig in the Czech Republic.
- Batalion Music Pub - 28. Rijna, Prague 1 (underground station Mustek)
This club that features "Live music from dusk till dawn" specializes in hard rock music. There is no entry fee (with the exception of special concerts) and you can also use the internet cafe with separate entrance.
- Vagon Music Pub & Club - Narodni 25 (Metro Palace - underground station and tram stop Narodni trida)
This club usually features Czech hard rock, punk and similar styles. Regular guests are also musicians from the "uderground" era (they played before the revolution in 1989 and let's just say that the communist regime did not like them very much). Their website also features a live feed from 21:30 until midnight.
Jazz & Blues:
- Reduta Jazz Club - Narodni 20, Prague 1 (tram stop and underground station Narodni trida)
A jazz club founded in 1958, Reduta is a legend among Prague's jazz clubs. It features live music every night from 9:30 pm. The small stage is very close to the audience, giving every performance a very intimate feel.
- U Stare Pani Jazz Club - Michalska 9, Prague 1 (near underground station Narodni trida)
A jazz club situated under the "U Stare Pani" hotel that features modern, contemporary and latin jazz music. You can get a meal in the restaurant all night and if you like the music, there is a CD shop selling the resident musicians' records.
- Ungelt Jazz & Blues Club - Tyn 2, Prague 1 (near the Old Town square, underground station and tram stop Namesti republiky)
As the name implies, ungelt hosts not only jazz, but also blues musicians. International jazz and blues stars like Dave Brubeck, James Moody, and even B.B. King - as well as Depeche Mode and Iron Maiden bands - played in this club.
- U Maleho Glena Jazz Club - Karmelitska 23, Prague 1 (tram stops Malostranske namesti and Hellichova)
This small club hosts live music every night, but every Sunday a jam session takes place, on Monday night there's a longest-running blues gig in Prague going on - "Stan the Man and his Bohemian Blues Band", Tuesday nights host Afro/Cuban music (with Cuban native Jorge Concepcion) and on Wednesday the Blues is on again with Chicago guitarist Rene Trossman Band.
- PopoCafePetl Music Club - Ujezd 19, Prague 1 (tram stops Hellichova and Ujezd)
A venue founded in 2006 (although it carries on the tradition of
an establishement formerly in Vodickova street near Wenceslas square) intends to be a craddle for beginning Czech bands - so if you wish to listen to some not-widely-known tunes and sounds, this is where you should go.
Miscellanelous:
- Lucerna Music Bar - Vodickova 36, Prague 1 (uderground station Mustek, tram stop Vaclavske namesti or Vodickova)
A traditional venue that hosts all sorts of concerts during the week and on Friday and Saturday nights there usually are 80's and 90's parties.
- Misch Masch - Veletrzni 61, Prague 7 (tram stop Veletrzni)
Formerly known as "Disco Letna", the venue was reconstructed and renamed in 2002. It is divided into 3 parts; the Dance zone, Oldies zone and Black music lounge (featuring soul music). Apart from the regular program, it hosts many irregular shows, so if you are considering a visit, you should check out the programme on their website.
- La Fabrique - Uhelny Trh 2, Prague 1 (near underground station Narodni trida)
A restaurant, cocktail bar
and music club with long tradition close to the Wenceslas square, featuring mostly Rock & Roll and Pop music. Has a wide selection of cocktails and tap beer (not only Czech beer, but also Stella Artois and Hoegaarden).
- Double Trouble - Melantrichova 17, Prague 1 (close to the Old Town square, near underground station Mustek)
A small club situated in a gothic cellar with incredible atmosphere, where you can truly get loose and wild. Table-top dancing is not forbidden here, on the contrary!
- Solidni nejistota (Solid uncertainty) - Pstrossova 21, Prague 1 (near tram stops Narodni divadlo and Myslikova)
A club with relaxed, friendly feel to it, although the dance floor is perhaps not too large. Many a great Czech musician and/or band started their career in this very club.
- XT3 - Rokycanova 29, Prague 3 (tram stop Lipanska, bus stop Rokycanova)
This venue is undergoing a partial reconstruction at the moment. It features mostly ska, reggae, hiphop and funky DJs and band of various styles. A sort of "battle of the bands" is going on every Tuesday until March 2007 - and entrance is free of charge for the audience.
- Palac Akropolis - Kubelikova 27, Prague 3 (tram stop Lipanska)
The Akropolis palace is a larger venue containing a theatre/concert hall, smaller dance club (with live DJs on weekends), a theatre bar, a cafe, a restaurant and a foyer that can serve as a gallery as well.
For those that prefer large-scale concerts to smaller club performances Prague has several large venues and they will satisfy both classical and modern music enthusiasts.
- Sazka Arena - Ceskomoravska 205/19 (underground station and bus stop Ceskomoravska, tram stop Sazka Arena)
The largest and most modern multipurpose (it hosts sports and cultural events as well as various exhibits and fairs) in the whole of Europe can be visited by 18 000 persons at one time. If you intend to attend a concert of some big star, you should be quick about it though - for example the tickets for Madonna's concert in September 2006 were sold out in mere 30 minutes.
Yeah, well... Czech girls ARE among the most beautiful in the world (after all, the last Miss World is from the Czech Republic) and every guy would like to see them naked, right? There are many strip clubs in Prague that will allow you to. These are just a few choice places in the centre:
- Atlas Cabaret - Ve Smeckach 31 (just off of Wenceslas square, underground station Muzeum)
Supposedly the first establishment of its kind in Prague, it offers go-go dancers, top-less dancers, strip-tease, and also lesbian show and live sex show in its three floors.
- Darling Cabaret - Ve Smeckach 32 (just across the street from Atlas Cabaret mentioned above)
The club's limousine cruises around Wenceslas Square at night and will take you to the club free of charge. It specializes in well-off
clientele though, so the prices are quite steep.
- Goldfingers Night Club - hotel Ambassador, Wenceslas Square 5-7 (underground station Muzeum or Mustek)
This club is situated in one of the most luxurious hotels in Prague, so it is not meant for a regular tourist; but the girls there are among the most beatiful in Prague and offer private shows and lap-dances.
- Desire Cabaret - V Jame 8 (tram stop Vodickova, underground station Mustek)
A well established club near Wenceslas square offers a full range of services. You can print a 10% discount card from their website.
Now this is no pimp site and we do not appreciate sexual tourism. We do not encourage you to use the services of prostitutes (especially not those you find offering themselves on the street), but if you want to, we cannot possibly stop you. So please, be careful, always use protection and at least visit some kind of established... Establishment. The largest site of this kind in the Czech republic is www.escort.cz
